The 2nd Annual Flash Fiction Blogfest

Today starts the  2nd Annual Flash Fiction Blogfest hosted by Cherie Reich. It was a blast writing flash fiction, and with a limit of only 300 words it was also a big challenge.

The flash fiction I wrote was inspired by the song, Old Ways by Loreena McKennitt. Feel Free to watch it here. It is one of my all-time favorite songs.

Also just a note: the story does have a love scene (written in figurative language).

Surrender to the Sea

Lightning flashed.

Memories flood my mind. The night we met was just like this. A storm took over the sky with cracks of lightning and thunder that thrashed with the waves of the sea.

I was crying by the shore when you came.

Your voice carried on waves of thunder as you sang to my war-torn heart. I saw the silhouette of a man, broad and muscled, standing on the beach in the pouring rain.
I met your gaze boldly, reaching for you. Your blue eyes were dark with desire. Kisses like pearls tasted of the sea. You drowned me with your hot mouth and the salt tang of your skin. The surf drummed the echo of my heartbeat. My blood surged, and crested as your heat crashed into me. Our bodies shared an ancient rhythm, rocking in fervent melody. As the crescendo reached its peak, my head lifted to the storm. You joined me, hard and shuddering, sending ripples through my body. We held each other close until the glittering dawn.

Come with me.” You urged me toward the morning waves. Your voice was ragged and low. But I broke away, tears sliding down my sandy cheeks. I could not leave my world behind.

Now, those memories pull me closer to the roaring depths. The waves beckon, calling my name. They say I belong with them, with you. I clamber my way to the seashore and gaze over the rolling hills of water. Will you be there?

I dive into the furious sea. The current pulls and thrusts, swallows me. I am rushing toward the sharp rocks.

You catch me in the net of your arms and plunge into the deep. My heart shatters with joy. I’m alive.

Anchored to you I am home. I’m finally home.

  8. Chilling and ethereal. Is she dead and in "his" arms; is she really saved; is she even imagining/hallucinating the whole thing? Very dream-like.

    Nice work.
