Revelation Station #1
I thought I would be OK with writing Wishing on Daisies as a YA Contemporary Romance but something about it didn't seem quite right, I was excited but not totally excited.

I think I missed the magic. You know, shape shifters, witches, spell-casters, something. I love fantasy and the paranormal so much.
Amandini from Abbso-fraggin-lutely suggested that I think about adding some magic in, even if it was just an element of the imagination in the character's minds.
Then it hit me.
Since my main character is a swimmer, maybe she could be a mermaid? *ding ding ding*
Amandini said, "I wasn't gonna say it, but I was thinking it."
After going back to my plot the mermaid idea seemed to fill in the gaps. And when I told Amandini about it she gave me a big high five. Yeah!
Now, I feel much better.
The Tough Questions:
Am I writing what I love?
Am I writing it in my voice and style?
Does the story idea sustain my excitement for the long haul?
Amandini also honored me with the Stylish Blogger Award. Damn, she is just too awesome! If you haven't already, check out her amazing blog, Abbso-fraggin-lutely.
Still working on getting ready for writing a Book in a Month. More updates to follow!
Awesome, glad you've worked out the plot problems you were having. I am super excited to see how you add in the mermaid aspect, it's gonna be so cool.

Really good questions. It's always wise to trust your gut if you feel like something's off, and it sounds like you found a great solution!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nicole, I like to trust my gut. It tells me to eat chocolate, strawberry shortcake, and ice cream. Sometimes it also says I should write things :)

'm considering JuNoWriMo. Not sure if I can pull it off but I'm trying to get stuff done so I can participate. Good luck to you!
ReplyDeleteI think you should try it!! If it gets a little too extreme just set your own goals for the month.

All the best. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Fedo! :)
DeleteCongrats on the award.
ReplyDeleteThose are good questions to ask. I've thought about adding a touch of magic to my manuscripts, but haven't done so.
Thanks Medeia, magic is fun and imaginative. I think you would do great with it. :)
