How to Bust the Grumps

Ok, guys.. I’m feeling a Bane of Creativity that I didn’t realize before. This Bane is like a black shadow that hides in the corners of your mind and whispers ugly things to you. The worst part is you think it’s coming from your own mind! The presence of this venomous shade causes symptoms of tiredness, irritability, sudden bouts of crying, and a desire for chocolate and/or hamburgers. The shadowy monster loves ice cream too. Some, call it PMS, but I think today I will call it Grumpy Poo Poo Head. If I let it get too out of control, they may have to throw me in the attic, lock it, and slide chocolate under the door. But, I won’t let it get to that point, because...

If you're seeing things running through your head
Who ya gonna call? Grump Busters!

How to Bust the Grumps:
Don’t give in to what the Grumpy wants, which is to magnify negative thoughts until they rule you.
Tell the Grumpy you will listen to them later, like in a few days
Counteract the Grumpy's words with good thoughts:
"I'm good enough, smart enough, and doggone it, people like me!"
"I have a lot to offer, my work is valuable, and I am improving all the time,."
"I can do this, and I will do this!"

Do things you enjoy. This will not only distract the Grumpy, but it also makes you feel a whole lot better.
  • Watch a favorite, comforting movie or TV show
  • Read a good book
  • Spend time with your pet
  • Take a leisurely walk outside
  • Listen to relaxing music
  • Get a massage, manicure, or pedicure
  • Watch/read something funny, laughter is great!
  • Take a bubble bath or relaxing hot shower
  • Play a video game
  • Write
  • Do something else that is inspiring or creative
  • Do something nice for someone
  • Go ahead and eat a hamburger, or chocolate, it helps to quiet the thing for a little while!
Just being aware that a Grumpy is there is the first major step to conquering it, when you do, it may try to scream and writhe around your brain. Throw a trap on the ground underneath it, blast your particle thrower at it and watch the lid of the trap open up and pull the Grumpy Poo Poo Head inside. When the trap clamps shut, throw it in the outside trash, bury it, or do whatever you can to get rid of it. Remember, I am strong, I can do it, and I ain't afraid of no Grumps!

Some days the best thing to do is to take care of you.
