Book in a Month Pt 11: Tired? Keep Going

I just came home from working late and having to run errands. I'm grumpy. I'm tired, and now I have to write. Well, I don't have to write. But, I want to.. especially with this whole book in a month thing and all.

So, here we go..

Question: Can a person write something even when they absolutely don't feel like it?
Answer: Yes!

Results:

Wishing on Daisies
Current Progress: 5145 words
Chapter 1, 2 - Complete.
Chapter 3 - Still in Progress

Chapter three had Kora starting swim team and school, and wondering about Sebastian. That is a lot of stuff. I still haven't finished the chapter yet, but it might end up having to become two chapters at some point.

Do you try to write, even when you don't feel like it? Is there anything that helps?

  1. Hello Andrea. I came across looking for your Voices entry, but this will do. Good on you. I do all my writing before I go to work as I don't get home til 8pm and am far too weary then.

My Writers Centre hosted a Rabbit Hole writing 3-day marathon where the goal was to write 30,000 words in 3 days. I knew that was ridiculous, but I got a lot of rewrites done on my first novel.

I've followed you. If you want to visit/follow me, this is my URL:

Google has defaulted to my twitter a/c. for my follow button. Who knows?

  4. Great work! And awesome quotes. I do force myself to write even when I don't feel like it. You eventually break through that barrier.

  6. Great question! And good for you for pressing on!

When I don't feel like writing I set an incredibly small goal for myself -- like five words. And once I write those five words I feel like writing more. Sometimes it's just a matter of getting started. :)

    1. What a great idea! I love that you set a small goal which makes you end up writing more.

  7. That's a difficult question. Since I only have self-imposed deadlines, if I don't feel I will write anything worthwhile I probably wouldn't write. You might just need a nap! :)

  8. I find my quality of writing dips when I am not into it. However, just getting something on the page can, at times, turn my demeanor around. If nothing else, keep going and go back and revise later. The key is to not to miss your specified writing times. If you don't keep at it, procrastination and apathy take up residence.

    1. Oh yeah, I am writing pure shiza.. no craft in it, about it or even near it. But I am ok with that, as a rough draft I am just trying to get all the story elements and ideas down and then reshape it all from there. It will be a big job though..(that why I hate re-writing and editing so much!) I like what you said about it keeping procrastination and apathy away, that is so true!
